§ 98-268. Deposits.

Latest version.
  • (a)

All customers applying to the city for municipal water service and/or municipal sewer service shall make an advance deposit for each connection for each service. All customers shall make an advance deposit of $100.00 for each connection of service ($50.00 water and $50.00 sewer). This is for connection to both the water and sewer systems, to secure payment for such services. If it shall be necessary for the city to apply such security deposits toward the payment of the customer's account for either water or sewer service, then upon notice of such action, the customer shall immediately replace the security deposit, or such service will be terminated. In the event of termination of service for nonpayment, the city reserves the right to increase the amount of security deposit required, if deemed necessary, based on the actual monthly usage of water and/or sewer services, by the defaulting customer. Where the customer has made security deposits for both the water and sewer services, such deposits may be applied to delinquencies for both the water and/or sewer service, without regard to which service the deposit was originally made to cover.

    (b)

Upon initiation of water and/or sewer service to a new customer or at a new address, the resident shall pay a $10.00 fee to connect the service and open the account. There shall also be a $10.00 fee to transfer an account from one address to another address within the city limits. There shall also be a $10.00 fee for disconnection upon termination of service, whether initiated by the city or the customer. These fees are not tap fees, and shall be nonrefundable, and collected from the deposit if necessary.
